Lane Guidance is an integrated system consisting of a camera, processor and software that warns drivers of an unintended lane departure. The camera is mounted to the upper part of the windshield near the center for optimum roadway viewing. Lane Guidance is programmed to recognize the difference between the road and land markings. The unit's camera uses machine vision technology to track the lane markings (solid, dashed, bot dots, white or yellow) and continually feeds the information directly into the unit's computer. Using image recognition software and proprietary algorithms, the computer determines when a vehicle begins to drift towards an unintended lane departure. When this type of situation is detected, the unit automatically emits a distinctive rumble strip sound from either the right or the left, depending on the unintended directions, immediately alerting the driver of a possible unsafe situation. The system is automatically disabled at slower speeds to avoid nuisance alarms. It also recognizes planned lane departures when turn signals are used. Requires J1939 DateLink.
